Regional Youth Peace Camp 2013
The Regional Youth Peace Camp is held in Prishtina from
13th till 20th of September and really successfully accomplished
to get together young people from different countries that used to be in
war just a few years ago: Kosovo, Albanian, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina
and Macedonia. At the first look it doesn’t sound very interesting, but it was! The
first night people were cold with each other as nobody knew each anyone, but everything start
next morning.
The first person I meet was my roommate Jetmir from Macedonia,
we stayed there in our room talking for about 15 minutes and then decided to go
and meet the others. It wasn’t anything big because we were from countries that
have been in war. But it wasn’t how everyone was expecting and we started talking
to each other and started sharing our experiences on that great sunny morning
that made the atmosphere even better.
Days were passing and on the third day everyone felt like it
was more than just three days that passed in that camp, very good friendships
started being created, I made some very good friends everyone had their own story. Some of the stories were touching, getting to know that there are young people
in other countries that share the same problems and worries as you, getting to know that they are fighting for their
essential human rights every day of their life knowing that they wake up with
the idea that today a protest will stop them from going to school, or knowing
that their doctor will not take care of them because they belong to a
different religion. These are only a few of things that I found out from the
participants that were in camp.
One of them was the visit to
the amazing city of Prizren where we had the chance to visit cultural heritage
places like the Mosque, Catholic Church, Orthodox
Church and the castle of Prizren. There was also a NGO
fair where I had the chance to present the activities of George Williams Youth
Association which made me feel pretty good because I saw that there were people
interested to know what we do and found a lot of similarities with some of the
other NGO’s that were being represented that night.
We also had a lot of other activates which were pretty good,
it’s worth to mention that the whole team was amazing, and I also had a very
good time with all the participants. One of the activates we had to work on was
the 'no hate speech day' that is on 21st of September, we were
separated in groups and had to work on different ideas, that was pretty
interesting to see so many youth work together towards the same goal.
I would like to finish my writing with only one picture that
I really liked from this camp.It was part of the working for no hate
speech day.
