Visiting the Ys Men in Denmark
In 2013 a partnership was struck between GWY (YMCA Kosovo) and the Y's Men in Denmark, in 2014 our movement embarked on opening the first charity/NGO shop in Kosovo with the help and support of the Y's Men club in Holstenbro. An application from our movement to the international 'Time of Fast' fund was also successful.
With the help of our friend Arne
Nielsen I was able to visit them recently. Arne's help and support has been fantastic and motivating for
us to work together and the members there really believe in making the world a better place.
My visit was from the 8th-12th of
December and through this days I had a chance to see first hand where the clothes donation
for Kosovo comes from, how they prepare them and the wonderful people behind the project.
Meeting the staff at the storage unit |
I also had an opportunity to be present at the Ys Men meeting where they
spoke about Kosovo and the process of the donation and commitment for help. I felt all the way through the meeting very inspired by their good will and support. I Also had the chance to meet two women who supported the transport
of donations to Kosovo they were so humble and lovely ladies.
Spending time with the Ys Men and wonderful volunteers |
It was a great experience also visiting different charity
shops from the YMCA/ YWCA Denmark shop to other organizations in town. When I visited the center where clothes get collected before
sending them to Kosovo, I got to meet Mona who visited Kosovo last year and was good
to catch up about the articles she wrote about Kosovo, the projects and people it was also nice to see her again.
As a result of the visit the Ys Men in Holstebro will support our organisation for five more years, sending clothes for our charity shop and teddies and clothes to help the poor families here during the winter months. This will continue to support our communities until we become more self-sustainable and we have encouraged a donating culture where we live.
There will be visit of Ys Men in 2015 in Kosovo and we are very happy to
host and make it a fun experience for them. I got to meet a lot of friends who invited me, Arne and his wife Signe for dinners at their homes and they showed a lot of hospitality and are very caring and loving people. One evening Poul Henrik came across for dinner and it was good to see an old friend and i enjoyed talking with him about Ys Men and YMCA cooperation.
I enjoyed sharing and talking about other’s cultures and am i thrilled about the extra support and partnership between us. So i would like to finish by saying to my hosts "Skål" and "Tak".
