Paradise on Earth by Pylljon

"Paradise on Earth"
Well, it was quite a new and attractive place for us or should i say for us youth... travelling to Greece was living a reality between antique and modern life, surfing through Thessaloniki at first, it was a great city with all the ingredients of Greek history.

All over amazing sights, all across downtown we saw special things and buildings, and then... the YMCA building. When we first saw that place, we thought is all this building for the YMCA? or only half of it?.. but no, it was huge! Everything was organized as it should be, a place where youth can express themselves, can reflect freedom and spend time with friends. A pool, a mini-market, a basketball hall, a mini church, lots of activity rooms and many many other things like cups, awards and we wished that one day we would have a YMCA like this, what an amazing place!

We moved from Thessaloniki for a hour and a half to Halkidiki - paradise on earth. The camp was populated by mostly Greek youth and we were the only Albanians there. By the next day we learned about camp rules, Marica's job (serving food for others), activities, drama, dance lessons and canoe surfing.

Performing drama

We learned and we had fun! Words cannot express how much fun we had! Halkidiki was a kind of hill, a higher hill with many tree's and down low there was a glittering sea with sand and little stones. The houses where we slept were like an american design, the collective bathrooms too, and a big big problem was the warm water that we couldn't drink! Our tutors were teenage Greeks and they taught us activities, games and how to find lost treasure with cards scattered in different places of camp.

An impressive place that we had in camp was the Amphitheater where we laughed, we danced and acted. I would describe it like a native Greek ''property'' made of stone.

The nights were never ending, we talked to each other, we told stories and laughed. ''People who love food are the best people'' all of our participants were a food lovers so we had to be patient during prayers even if we were as hungry as hell!  The best part was canoeing on the open sea... after this amazing experience we jumped into the sea for a swim.

Day by day, night by night, road my road we turned back where we were at the first stop Thessaloniki, we had a great time! So many big words could be used for this trip but all i will say it was really cool that the YMCA did this for us!

Cheers Pylljon
